Should the Town of Hunter consider policies regulating the use and/or time of use of different sizes and types of watercraft on lakes within its jurisdiction?
372 submissions
Should the Town of Hunter consider policies regulating the use and/or time of use of different sizes and types of watercraft on lakes within its jurisdiction?
163 submissions
Which types and what size. What is the real question here?
1
High speed boats, cigarette boats, jet skis etc. should be limited in size/horsepower and only allowed during certain times of summer.
1
Limit jet skis and wave boats
1
i would be in favor of fishing only watercraft protection morning/evenings.
1
Skidos and tubing on the water with high speed boats. Police the no-wake zones!
1
How could the Town of Hunter make it enforceable?
1
Impossible with limited resources an no increase in taxes.
1
Don\’t need more rules
1
Reduce large watercraft & jet skis during early and later parts of days.
1
Quiet lakes are the best! No jet skis.
1
No increased wake boat usage anywhere. Speed limits on smaller lakes.
1
Recreational boating should be off the water by 6 p.m. They interfere with prime fishing times.
1
Wake boats are a problem.
1
Big fast boats are a hazard. Wake boars destroy shoreline.
1
Time usage of snowmobiles and wake board skiers would be beneficial. No wake zones: this could be during high water as Minnesota does or permanent in areas of narrow passage, especially by land owner property\’s.
1
Enforce the policy that you are responsible or your wake. No wave runners – jet skis.
1
Wake boats
2
Limit motor size to protect natural recourses.
1
Eliminate the use of wake boats on lakes.
1
People just need to be more respectful
1
These boats racing around on the flowage for t-shirt runs is insane. You can\’t take a relaxing boat ride with 47 boats flying by.
1
I feel the operation of pleasure craft is often dangerous to others because people are uneducated about safety or do not care about maintaining distance because it is not enforced.
1
Wake boats and high speed ski boats do not belong close to shore.
1
NO WAKE BOATS – we\’re trying to protect the shoreline!
1
Wake boats that damage the lake
1
Get rid of the wake boats. the sandy shores cannot withstand it.
1
Water craft and motors should be appropriate to the size of the lake.
1
But only minimally with lots of public input and sound science.
1
Wake surf boats are an issue that needs to be addressed.
1
No jet skis allowed.
1
Yes there should be restriction of \”wake\” boats specifically. These boats will permanently damage lake structure, etc. Also, would be nice to have no water skiing on jet skis before say 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m., so people can fish, canoe and kayak safely with more peace.
1
This is already regulated on the Flowage. I believe the DNR has guidelines already in place.
1
Possibly a maximum horse power limit – 200 HP?
1
Isn\’t this the DNR jurisdiction?
1
No wake boats.
5
Too many personal water craft and boaters unfamiliar with lake destroying fish habitat.
1
Ban wake boats – limit PWC areas.
1
Limit horse power on motors. Waves destroying shoreline. Outlaw skidoos and wave runners.
1
Keep Government at bay.
1
Town wake ordinance.
1
I don\’t like PWC\’s but the water is public. no wake zones and distance regs are enough. most are not enforced anyway.
1
Preventing watercraft such as wake boats is the first step to help with shore erosion in lakes and streams.
1
Enforce no wake by shoreline.
1
Too many wake boats and ski boats – they do no respect other boaters or fisherman. Keep the Flowage wild, not a playground.
1
No wake boats, limit jet skis, establish ski & tubing hours from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
1
Only on small lakes surrounded by private lands.
1
When I got here it was a wilderness paradise. It still is, but it\’s one busy paradise now.
1
Ban wake boats.
1
I think that\’s more of a Flowage \”all over\” issue.
1
Please consider banning wake boats on the Chippewa Flowage. Your biggest marketing is that this is Wisconsin\’s largest wilderness lake, yet wake boats and party boats are destroying the fisheries.
1
Wake boats only allowed in deeper water.
1
No wake boards; limited time for tubing & water skiing; enforcement at boating regulations.
1
Continued concern regarding wake boarding and not only wave erosion, but also disruption of lake bed and eco system.
1
No wake boats
2
We don\’t see a problem. I get there is an anti wake boat movement, but it\’s no big deal.
1
I was gong to say regulate ski hours on lakes, but that\’s not fair.
1
Don\’t ban watercraft, but crack down on \”speeders\”. Fishing is a priority. Speed limits! No wakes near fishing boats.
1
Watercraft distance/speed washing shorelines.
1
For what purpose? how would you enforce?
1
I think we should have a size & H.P. limit on recreational boats (not fishing boats)
1
Wake boats should not be allowed near vulnerable shore lines.
1
Wake boats cause a lot of shoreline erosion.
1
i don\’t think that we have any issues with that. There are already 3 lakes in the area where there are limitations with craft & use.
1
Unless seasonal speed limits that protect the fishery in not disturbing egg and hatch of fish.
1
Do not need wake boats.
1
Regulate wave boats and jet skis.
1
Smaller lakes canoe or non-motorized boats only. Large lakes, no motorized trolling for Walleye.
1
Educate people so various users do not have conflicts.
1
There are already area lakes that have time restrictions on activities, every lake does not have to have restrictions.
1
Not sure I understand what the problem is. We sure don\’t want to be a lake Minnetonka with ginormous cabin cruisers.
1
Limit water skiing and jet ski hours. No wake boats.
1
These new wake boats are hard on our shorelines causing unnatural erosion.
1
More regulation of boats designed for wake enhancement.
1
I\’m on the Chippewa Flowage. i have plenty of bays to fish! Jet skis can sometimes be a pain, but families with kids need a place to come!! Usually they are good!
1
I don\’t mind the size of the boat, but what is that boat doing? If it is creating a 3 or 4 foot wave so someone can surf behind it, I don\’t think any land owner on a lake likes to see these waves crashing on their shore.
1
It\’s more how watercraft is operated. Following no wake guidelines, clean boats of invasive species. Bigger crafts respectful of smaller ones.
1
For skiing and jet skis.
1
If you want approval to restrict use, be a little more specific.
1
Wake boats and jet skis at times are a problem.
1
No wake boats. Maybe limit outboard motor size.
1
Maybe times limited to certain hours, but I do think wake boats should not be allowed for environmental reasons.
1
Powerboat maximum length 24 feet.
1
I\’d need more specific\’s.
1
Restrict wave runners and wave generating boats.
1
Eliminate jet skis. Enforce no wake around docks and shorelines.
1
Many lakes can\’t accommodate deep running wake/wave boats without damaging habitat and lake bottom.
1
Limit jet skis to certain hours.
1
Just wake boats.
1
Wave boats – eradicate. Enforcement of NO WAKE zones. Shoreline protection EMPHASIS!
1
Contact lake owners association regarding their needs and wants for their lake.
1
Limit recreational water craft in the mornings and evenings.
1
This should be a State issue.
1
Wave boats and jet skis should be restricted on times of use. Enforce closeness to other boats.
1
Experience in another part of Wisconsin and lake life finds this difficult to enforce.
1
Water ski, jet ski, tubing should be limited to the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
1
Don\’t discourage visitors with regulations. Educate boaters to act responsibly.
1
\”No\” jet skis – limited waterskiing/tubing.
1
Wake size is a problem when boat race by our area.
1
Regulate wake boats, hours set for jet skis.
1
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for water ski and jet ski.
1
Eliminate wake boats. Limit water skiing and jet skis, etc. to specific hours – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
1
Although sometimes annoying, these people are spending dollars in the area.
1
The ship has sailed, but wake boats do not belong on most area lakes!
1
Hiking trails
Bike trails
1
Stop the use of wake boats on area lakes.
1
Keeping in mind the residents and visitors.
1
No wake boats, size of pontoons and number of pontoons is out of control, barging.
1
Enforce existing boating policies – no wake/jet skis by shoreline.
1
Should not be used in areas that are the most likely to erode (wake boats – ski boats)
1
Limit hours of high speed water craft recreation – water skis, jet ski, etc. Enforce no wake zones.
1
Try to enforce \”no wake areas\”.
1
No jet skis. Max speed for power boats and tubing.
1
Jet skis.
1
Instead of creating new policies/ordinances, perhaps focusing on enforcing existing regulations/ordinances would be helpful if people are experiencing issues.
1
Lakes are too small for over sized, over powered water craft.
1
Jet skis and wake boat limitation or unable to use on lake.
1
Limit use of boats that disturb lake bottom/base – wake boarding use.
1
DNR regulates. Let the State do their job and Town to maintain.
1
People and businesses on a certain lake should have a say.
1
Complete over reach!
1
Do not allow wake boats.
1
i think the lakes should keep the size of water craft, should not change.
1
Right now that doesn\’t seem to be an issue on the Flowage.
1
This would be a gross over-reach of government. Towns should NOT have the ability to tell people how they can recreate, when they can recreate, where they can recreate.
1
Erosion problems – no wake boats!
1
We need no wake zones to stop shoreline erosion.
1
Poor decision making and rule abuse on our lake by operators of jet skis and wake board boats. Encroaching on shoreline, wildlife (especially loons) and boaters/swimmers. Excessive waves causing erosion.
1
There are a variety of lake sizes and populations within the town. If regulations should be imposed they should be discussed, reviewed and imposed by each local lake association which is much more familiar with the particular lake.
1
Wake boats are killing the shorelines – need restrictions.
1
That is a DNR issue.
1
No jet skis on the Chippewa Flowage.
1
Not going to happen on the Flowage where I\’m at.
1
Irresponsible use of jet skis and wake boarding; excessive speed and not maintaining distance from shore. It is changeing the character of the lake and disturbing shoreline and wildlife.
1
Limit or ban wave runners. Ban deep V-hulls such as large wake boat.
1
While I have a fishing boat, pontoon, kayak, I spend a majority kayaking. Way too many issues with boats speeding by me and not slowing down. Also, causing huge waves along shoreline.
1
Are you insane? What makes you god? How would you enforce anything? Do you no longer want tourism, which pays for everything and is the reason you\’re here in the first place?
1
However, we are not out on the lakes, but do appreciate a more relaxed atmosphere.
1
How would this be enforced???
1
There should be slow-no-wake unless out in middle of Flowage.
1
Protecting the resource is first and foremost.
1
Excessively high water levels and boats traveling at high speeds with large wakes are eroding the shorelines at alarming rates on the Chippewa Flowage.
1
We are wondering how such policies would be regulated and cost of regulating.
1
Absolutely! There is no need for these huge boats/motors on our lakes. Nothing but trouble, They can go to Lake Superior.
1
Many lakes have a slotted time for water sports (class \’A\’ musky lakes). The Flowage also needs this. The use of wake boats are not suitable for our size waters.
1
People should be allowed to recreate on public waterways as they please.
1
NO!!
1
Water craft etiquette should be enforced.
1
I feel we need to continue to enforce the 700\’ distance for powered water craft from shorelines.
1
Limit jet skis and large motors. No wake from dusk till 11 or 12 noon.
1
Reduce use of jet skis and large wake producing water craft.
1
Need \”calm\” areas along coastlines and areas to encourage fishing and rowing/canoeing of years past.
1
No jet skis.
1
Wake boats should not be allowed. Their excessively large wakes erode shorelines and the bladders can carry invasive aquatic species because they can\’t be fully emptied and inspected. Limit jet ski hours.
1
No jet skis, speed limits, wake limits.
1
Absolutely not!
1
Some of the people using jet skis and boats for tubing on the lake seem to not know common curtesy. Maybe have restrictions. Or a info sheet on why there are no wake zones in areas of the lake.
1
Ban of wake boats as they erode our sandy shoreline and disturb the bottom of the lake. Bigger issue: lake users understanding boating regulations as it relates to wakes and speed. Resort owners and short term rentals need to promote the rules. No enforcement!

Normally I would want the Town to change in one direction or the other. I believe it is difficult to maintain a certain quality of life to a community. In this case we would be well off to work for a more of the same.
You are all doing a terrific job.
1
We had issue with expansion of the small old cabin. Just wanted to add on a 3 season porch back of cabin. Hayward told us it would/should be approved but wasn\’t.
Expensive and very disappointing.
1
Stopping the clear cutting of forest lands in Hunter. Let that grow big trees for future residents and visitors!
1
I feel that more building inspection should be done on properties. I have heard of a house that was built that NEVER got a building permit off Conner Road.
1
Century Link issues with WIFI speeds. Speeds are very slow and makes it difficult to use various products. The Government is wanting faster speeds for rural areas. Hopefully this will be accomplished.
1
We have spent many past years in Jackson County, Black River Falls, and Hatfield areas of WIS. before ATVers and sand frackers. The area has suffered considerably since they became prevalent. We no longer desire to go to those areas. We do not want to see that happen to Town of Hunter/hayward areas.
1
We have to open more roads to ATV/UTV
1
For property owners, the tourist make the area not as desirable.
We are looking forward to spending more time in the Town of Hunter when we retire.
1
I am in support of bringing back your Town winter snow removal option for seasonal cabin owners.
1
We are losing some natural beauty, wildlife and fishing quality. The lakes are getting muddy where there used to be sand. There are more lake weeds. Some of the shoreline is deteriorating. Too many high speed boats and pontoons. There are more people on the lake that do not respect fisherman.
1
Town is doing a good job. Moving in the right direction.
1
Certain times for big boat and personal watercraft so people can fish in the morning and the evening.
1
i moved to Wisconsin for recreation fun. Don\’t limit my enjoyment. Expand usage the usage.
i am sick of more rules and laws. leave it alone Government.
1
ATV\’s should be allowed to go at least to the trails from your residence.
1
Expand recycling efforts and resume the garbage clearance day for non-garbage items such as small appliances, bikes, furniture.
1
All in all, we are very happy with Town of Hunter. We are concerned with the lack of recycling in the area, especially at rental units (associations) and resorts.
1
For me, a big issue that has cropped up in the past couple of years is the use of fertilizers on lake shore lawns. The use of pesticides to kill mosquitos and spraying houses for spiders. All this crap ends up in the water at some point.
I\’ve also noticed more new shoreline owners excavating their shorelines as in removing large boulders, etc. Also, cutting up and removing bogs on their shoreline.
1
All in all the area is a pleasant place to be. We would not want more rules or enforcement. Thank you to the people who keep the Town up and help the community. Greatly appreciated!
1
More people = more taxes = more revenue = more building = more environmental destruction.
What do you want to leave to the next generation?
The new tavern on the shore of Scot Lake is a worst land use decision I have seen. Party on.
1
Boating safety is a primary issue (speed/passing in narrow area). Snowmobiles not accessing and following trails seems to become an issue. Respecting private landowners needs to be emphasized.
The Flowage for years has been advertised as a wilderness area. From what is observed, it is not what is advertised. Things are getting out of control. People operate their recreation vehicles like they drive their cars & trucks.
1
I have been to snowmobile/ATV club meetings. Very disappinted in the lack of consideration given to ATV/UTV use on roads! This is pushing people to other areas, hurting local business/resorts.
1
Need roads opened for ATV/UTV use. Round Lake & Hunter are the last to allow – hurting local establishments.
1
The bars here have sold out for the fast, drunken, racing around drinking games. There are very few family places left.
1
I would like to see retail store, such as grocery and hardware, etc. encouraged in Hunter.
1
i love it here
1
We are in the woods without neighbors. We stay there so we don\’t see whatever it is you are worried about. I would not like any development around me. If your survey was more specific, I could give you an opinion. Good luck!
1
Town of Hunter is completely unwilling to listen to clubs in regards to ATV & UTV use on roads! Please do your jobs and act on behalf of the people instead of yourselves!
1
We would really like to see roads open up to ATV. We see them all over Hayward. Our machine has blinkers, lights, horn. Living in Town of Hunter we are limited to where we can ride. We enjoy our rides and would love to see more privileges on ATV use. Have discussed this matter with many residents of Town of Hunter. Please allow this to happen.
1
Keep the islands all public property – no development. No cutting of trees in woods, but keep woods clear of dead trees!
1
We have enough campgrounds. The dog license requirement is unnecessary.
1
Town of Hunter should align with Hayward Police department instead of LCO Police dept. I have had 3 boat motors stolen and numerous break ins of my property. LCO Police dept. is a joke. LCO Police dept. has no interest in preventing/investigating property crimes.
1
I own vacant land with no structure and do not live within 200 miles.
1
Require permits & flags for ATV/UTV use on Town roads.
1
Town board does a great job. Keep it up.
1
With the influx of new urbanite property owners, pressure is being applied to Towns and the County to offer development services that are beyond the scope and capability of Towns and the County to offer, thereby impacting the rural character of Towns and the County.
1
I appreciate your proactive approach to maintain and even improve the Northwoods experience for everyone.
1
We love the area, we have been visiting and staying here for years. We have lived here for 4 years 5 months a year and love it. We do lots of activities and our grandkids love it too.
1
Tiger Musky Road in need of repair!
1
Over all a very poorly written survey. It assumes the reader knows what the author is talking about. For better input, this should be re-done with better clarification and definition.
1
We are all for creating more recreational areas in the area as long as there\’s enough enforcement in these areas so they can be kept safe and clean for all ages to enjoy. Perhaps require purchase of hike/bike trails/ATV trails seasonal pass to help defray costs of maintenance. Could also have picnic areas; restroom facilities along the longer trails, etc. Seasonal passes could also help with this.
1
Seems we are getting to many trailers and people buying an acre or two and placing camping trailers and out houses, etc. on property. it looks messy and people seem to think this is a anything goes area and no respect for wildlife and local residents. Too many blue and white plates.
1
Our local dump site should be looked at to offer more services, such as tire recycling to reduce those left on the road side. Large items such as stoves, microwaves, refrigerators, electronics such as computers, TV\’s etc. Oil recycling. Most of this is offered at other Towns. I think this would be a BIG step forward to offer at least some of these services. Or post at the dump site where a person can get rid of these items.
1
Increase Resort opportunities.
1
Open up roads to ATV\’s. It\’s crazy that we can\’t get form place to place. We pay licenses , we pay gas tax and adhere to the blinkers, horn and mirrors necessary.
1
I understand expansion. When is enough, enough? Will you ever get a majority of people to say no more or limited expansion? is it here yet? I\’ll vote no more expansion if it were this simple.
1
Too many mobile home/RV parks. unfortunately, they look like hobo camps.
1
Training for ATV/Snowmobile for young or inexperienced people.
1
Ban wake boats from the flowage. More buoys for no wake zones.
1
We need to protect tracts of property that are being bought and divided into small parcels on the water. Need to be consistent on size, not allowing two be divided to get as many residents on a parcel. This is happening way to often and loosing our character of natural surroundings.
1
Thanks for this survey! We come to our cabin seasonally as a refuge. We also realize that many folks live year round and respect their needs to make a living and use resources. The ideal is to make Town of Hunter work for a wide variety.
1
Don\’t care in the crazy special interest. We are doing fine. I\’m proud of you folks at the township. I liked it when you used to plow.
1
Life\’s good on the waters of Sawyer County. #1 retirement County for sports elders. Beautiful main street in downtown Hayward.
1
We see a need to enforce rules and regulations of speed on lake and roads.
1
Road bans lifted for businesses with food products delivered. Garbage services for commercial properties is a real must!
1
This questionnaire seems to be structured in a way that is against any economic improvement for our town. Care needs to be taken when writing the next comp. plan to ensure there are reasonable provision in place to allow our residents to thrive while protecting the rustic nature of our town. Both CAN exist at the same time with professionally run/high quality establishments the residents & guests that choose to visit our area.
1
I love living here and don\’t think we have to change anything.
1
Satisfied with the way things are currently. Would not recommend any major changes.
1
There should be temporary WIFI usage for vacation houses. We should be able to have a code to enter to open gates and dump garbage for convenience!!
1
People throw a lot of garbage along the roads. Maybe use our tax money to clean it up or issue fines for littering.
1
winter is slower, as population is less. Snowmobile use would allow for grater access to local businesses which would help them.
1
Hiking trail on CC should have year round access, meaning, plow the parking area for winter snowshoe hikes.
1
i would like to see more regulations on guided fishing and resorts hosting fishing tournaments. I think they have an effect on the fish populations.
1
Let land owners, like myself, build a utility shed to store tools, lawn mower, etc. To help keep up the appearance of our property.
1
Increased development decreases the rural Northwoods character. Mining activities degrade/destroy natural habitat and water quality.
1
Remember that as you increase ordinances and regulations that you need enforcement. There are already plenty of them on the books that are not enforced. The law enforcement is stretched thin already so who is going to police all of these regulations? Are planning committee members willing to do this? And after all what good is owning land if you can\’t do anything with it?
1
Definitely need:
Better high-speed broadband
Extend water & sewer out to Dun Rovin area
Hunter doesn\’t really feel like a town onto itself. Creating a town center at corner of County B and County B.
1
Allow 4 wheelers and side by sides. My family enjoys coming to the area year round but need to be able to ride ATV/UTV\’s.
1
Thank you for all you do for us!
1
There is a very large development on the Chippewa Flowage (Menard property). It does not appear to be consistent with zoning or shoreline use regulations.
1
I\’m on the Chippewa Flowage, Teal and Ghost for 60+ years. My dad started taking me musky fishing at 3 years old! My Illinois Bear\’s plate is (Musky) and I hope to go for 20+ years more. I am a big \”dumb\” Norwegian, but love Hayward!!!
1
3, 4 & 13 reaction is NOT Town of Hunter, but the entire Northwoods. Note – I\’m an old timer and liked the way it was better then what it\’s become.
1
Limit developers from creating seasonal RV campsites, especially higher density.
1
The Resor towners could educate their guests on water safety, regulations and bag limits.
1
Improve the fisheries.
1
Education is always welcomed, however, I understand many people using the area are unwilling to appreciate the need for maintaining the waters, woods, wildlife, etc. it is a tough balance – vacationers bring in money.
Thank you for all your hard work!
1
All small lakes 40 -50 acres or less should be considered no wake lakes. Too annoying for such small areas. Jet skis should not be allowed on small lakes as it affects the shoreline and the noise levels.
Thanks for doing this.
1
Need to enforce current zoning laws rather than allowing developers to divide existing properties in interest of extending tax base. Flagrant disregard of existing zoning laws – see Chippewa Flowage.
1
UTV are an economic boom for other Wisconsin counties. Open the roads!
Wake boats gotta go, to much erosion.
VRBO\’s should have a random inspection once a year. IE # of guests per unit.
Please research public law 280 and advise our town residents.
Lastly, not having UTV access on your ranking question is myopic for whoever wrote this – \”out of touch\”.
1
The reservation needs to clean up its properties.
1
I don\’t know what control Hunter has over Hwy B, but I don\’t believe Hwy B is a good choice for ATV/UTV travel. I\’m not opposed to ATV/UTV\’s but I feel opening Hwy B would be too dangerous to ATV/UTV\’s and motorists.
1
By expanding recreational land use, aka, opening roads to ATV\’s would increase tourism and bring more revenue to the area, especially to our local resorts and hotels.
1
I\’m 72 – obviously I\’m into: shoreline protection, eradicate invasive species, DNR enforcement, no wake boats. Issue tickets, make it hurt!
1
Plow the Buckhorn Rd all the way to land owners.
1
Thank you for your consideration.
1
As a non resident landowner who does not visit much, it is difficult to comment on some items. Short term rentals should be allowed but well regulated.
1
Get rid of the ATV\’s from the roads. Maybe we could have some peace and quiet from the howling tires and no more doing donuts in my yard.
1
We love it the way it is!
1
Any requests to deviate from the current zoning rules for commercial recreation development would represent a detrimental change to the use, character and quiet nature of the Chippewa Flowage area. Small mom and pop businesses, restaurants and resorts have long been part of the local landscape, but large scale commercial development would be totally out of character for the area. If allowed, it would completely destroy the bucolic nature of the Town of Hunter and the Chippewa Flowage.
1
i love the Northwoods and cherish the vibe and life style. A little more convenience store locations would be helpful. Monitor/pursue road side garbage dumping fines.
1
We love it up here and hope our children and grandchildren will come to love it also. Of course this means more crowds but that\’s the way life works.
1
Bring back the Town snow plowing service. Slow down the traffic by Sisko\’s S turn.
1
Improve Town roads – common sense clearing – no need for extra wide Town roads.
1
Thank you for the opportunity to provide input.
1
Blueberry Lake – trouble with resident feeding bears. Leave bags of corn for animals to eat. The last 3 years we regularly have a bear feeding and staying around on Pine Knoll Rd. We have children across the street from a bear. Very concerned. Person feeding – Skip Van Gorden.
1
We have plenty of hiking trails, ATV and snowmobile trails as well as ski trails which is great. Spend money on maintaining roads. Bring in infrastructure money for better cell phone/wi-fi coverage.
1
Manage the area as a \”quiet\” area. keep development at a minimum.
1
Thank you!
1
We need much more enforcement of snowmobile activity. Speed and staying on trails. Non-lake lots should be a minimum of 3 acres with no permanent travel trailers of year round camping.
1
Some of these questions should have more information to better explain themselves. A separate sheet with more information would have been helpful.
1
Hand count ballots.
1
i enjoy the quiet living of the area. We need faster internet service.
1
I\’m only up there on weekends and I am older so I don\’t feel it\’s fair to answer any of these questions. I have enjoyed my time there a lot. I kayak and would like to see more fast boats staying more distance from kayaks.
1
Happy to have taken this survey.
1
Tornado shelter.
1
Use of ATV and 4 wheelers on Town roads has become loud to residents. The quiet peaceful way of living here is disappearing.
1
Wisconsin resident since 1970; purchased 1995. With the exception of boat size and many more with large HP motors, the Chippewa Flowage has remained the same, thankfully, compared to traffic on the roads and some cities.
1
No dogs running lose! Can\’t walk down road!
1
Somehow emphasize the ordinance of no lose dogs. No trouble last year, but did have some previous two years. I do love dogs, but I don\’t think they should run lose.
1
The area is a unique spot, and should be maintained as it is. Any changes should be minimal.
1
I plan to live and work in the Town of Hunter for decades to come. There is a way to embrace increased recreational/tourism use of our community while making it an awesome place to live at the same time. Those two goals do not need to be at odds with one another. Thank you for working on updating our Town\’s comprehensive plan!
1
We are in our 70\’s – the dream of living here permanently has come true. The reason to live here is peace, quiet, clean air & water and recreational opportunities. I get that we need commerce, but the past few years it seems that more and more visitors do NOT respect our way of life and our environment. Anything that can be done to help make a positive effect on that issue should be done.
1
We are not the \”DELLS\” and should not encourage tourists coming who want a \”DELLS\” like experience.
1
Nothing stays the same. Chane can be good and bad.
1
Water patrols enforcement.
1
Governing the Township should be by the people (resident) not a Governing Board of a few!
1
Why are we trying to restrict people from doing things you all once found desirable – why did you move here? To enjoy and do recreational things in the Northwoods? Correct? Lets not restrict new people from enjoying what we\’ve loved and what made us come here.
1
Sawyer County Chamber of Commerce advertises ATV/UTV friendly, but very few of the residents can get to the trials! Residents just want to be able to get to the trails! Opening of County roads should be County wide!
1
Please enforce the zoning laws! i.e. the area with all the lawn mowers across from the bait shop. it looks awful, down property value, pollutes the lake and upsets neighbors.
1
We are new to the community but are spending more time at our house. Although unfamiliar with the past trends, what captivated us was the Northwoods character of the area. It is a quiet, peaceful and beautiful area unlike many others. Preserving this would be our top input and limiting the commercial aspects of growth should be a very low priority.
1
I feel that this survey was written incredibly biased – with pre-conceived notions of how you wanted people to answer questions with your own personal agendas in mind. Maybe recreating a survey with fair and neutral questions would be in your best interest. I recommend reaching out to residents who own businesses in you Township and fund it. Instead we\’re being led astray by retirees with too much time on their hands. They\’re focused on their own agendas, now that you\’ve retired and have your slice of heaven no one else can ever come here again.
1
I like the rural feel of Hunter and though I\’ve seen the pandemic increase the number of residences, I believe it should try not to grow more businesses and traffic. How much more development do we need before it becomes a slippery slope into another woodsy suburbia.
1
Consistent degradation of the use of the lake for fishing, kayaking, canoeing and swimming due to the lack of respect/knowledge of operators of jet skis and wake boats. Better enforcement of existing rules and/or development of better guidelines that are fair and respectful for all.
1
Would like Warner Drive road smoother, looks like doing culvert work. It is very rough! Don\’t drain Flowage – we pay waterfront taxes and it is drained half the time.
1
Ensure septic systems are working. Coordinate with County. Enforce dumping and junk storage codes. Lawn mower junk yard needs to be cleaned up. We know its in Round Lake Township, but it is a blight and environmental risk on the Town of Hunter too. Do they even have a septic system? Or does it go into the lake.
1
Would like to see road improvements on North River Rd. It\’s two miles long from \”B\” to end of road. There are three resorts along this road, with abundant traffic!
1
Will be resident in 2023. While catering to tourists are important, it is also important to take care of permanent residents. The closing of resorts and cabins needs to slow down somehow to maintain businesses; restaurants.
1
The Chip needs to revert to and remain a place of relative quiet and relaxation. There are enough developed lakes in the area to satisfy recreational use that is other than fishing, hunting and nature watching.
1
We enjoy the peace and quiet and leaving the city behind. Keep it quiet.
1
Rom tax is not effective – what are we doing with that? Too many people in the area; drugs/drug houses, bars not picking up their garbage, ATV\’s on roads which brings in a whole new crowd not to mention the properties with campers popping up. People at landings do not have proper knowledge of how to park at landing; etiquette. Lack of police/warden. We need positive change. People just wanting more money!
1
Very disturbed by arrogant, disrespectful residents using jet skis and wake boarding close to shoreline. No regard for swimmers and fishing boats in the area. Reluctant to confront due to not wanting a \”war\” with neighbors. Arrogant display of political banners during annual July 4 lake parade. Apparent selective enforcement of shoreline maintenance/changes on personal property – some clear for \”beach\” effect.
1
My main concerns are the lakes. That\’s what attracts everyone to the area. Boats are to large with 200-250 HP. Wave runners are destructive to shoreline erosion, fish spawning grounds and fishing.
Can we do something about 4th of July week? It\’s becoming a nightmare for humans and animals.
1
If logging needs to be done, do not clear cut; select cut.
1
This is a terrific survey. Incredibly leading, broad questions designed to steer people to the opinion that notes boats and business are bad.
Using tourism dollars to try and regulate how tourist can vacation under the guise fo conservation is shameful. The tax dollars, fishing and boating licenses are what pays for conservation. Nor your dream of having a Northwoods paradise to yourself.
1
With increased commerce and the instigation of the room tax, we feel it would be prudent to connect all routes for snowmobiles and ATV/UTV\’s. This will provide increased financial support for our businesses in the township and in outlying areas.
1
This is a tourism area. hayward is built around it. Why limit guest who spend a lot of money here to become unwelcome?
1
As events under the Birkie umbrella expand, I think we are missing an economic opportunity by not providing options for ski/bike folks. We now know many folks buying homes/property for access to those types of activities. Today\’s skiers and bikers are spending dollars. Would benefit our tax base to explore ways to leverage that interest in the Town of Hunter.
1
i don\’t like th thought of having more short term rentals. Speaking from experience, we are on the Flowage on Moonshine. One home owner removed all shrubs and trees from lake front and has made a rental house. Not happy about it. It ruins the charm of the Northwoods and our little bay on Moonshine. Many year round residents reside as well as LCO
1
Keep it rural, no commercial buildings, no condo\’s, no apartments, no fast food places. Mom & Pop stores only. That\’s the only reason I go to Hunter to get away from the city.
1
Since the 1920\’s the Chippewa Flowage has been the economic and ecological life blood of the Town of Hunter. 35 ears ago tax payers invested $10,000,000 to protect and preserve the unique semi-wilderness Flowage experience. In the last 15 years unrestrained greed and inadequate regulations have caused the multi faceted over exploitation that has destroyed that. Shame on all of us! May god have mercy on our souls.
1
High water levels on the Chippewa Flowage need to be addressed. The State and DNR had the lake at a full head on December 1. There was no room for spring melting. Now lake is beyond a full head. Logs floating everywhere. Boats are traveling at high speeds and worsening the condition. Enforcement is needed on no-wake 100 foot from shore rules.
1
We believe the permanent residents of the Town of Hunter would derive great benefit from having a community recreational area. This would afford residents a place to recreate away from the throng of tourism, and the gather and conduct community events. This area should not be on the water.
1
Thank you for asking for input! I hope it is taken to heart. We really don\’t want the Northwoods anymore commercialized, over used and abused that it already is. You have a tough job ahead of you and not everyone will be happy, but mother nature needs to be preserved.
1
As stated on some questions – very vague. Next time please use some for examples. Hopefully survey results help to accomplish some necessary changes.
1
Opening all Town raids to ATV\’s would be a great recreational benefit to many people. If not all roads can be opened it would be nice to at least open County B from CC to FR319 to at least allow access from east side to West side of the Chippewa Flowage area.
1
Tourism/commercial recreation is our only industry. Frustration would be felt with lack of tourism/resort support for increase ways of drawing new people via UTV/ATV/snowmobile/biking, etc.
1
Question 11 & 12 – more trails alongside County B & CC.
1
Our primary concern is to maintain the character and family culture of the Town of Hunter. Safer walking/biking trails with the necessary addition of UTV access to roadway is an important and necessary evolution of the recreational needs of the community. Economic sustainability and environmental sustainability must be combined to ensure the families and businesses have sound and vibrant future for generations to come!
1
The area is recreational, open up ATV use.
1
Keep up the good job. Retired and moved here this spring. This area is awesome!
1
My daughter and family, this May, saw Elk and a huge bear at dusk on County S north of county B. I told them to look there – signage could do the same.
1
Better internet option are rquired.
1
I feel that VRBO\’s, resorts, etc. should have a responsibility to educate/monitor their renters about rules and etiquette of the lake. In the past several years, I\’ve noticed renters not keeping safe distances from docks and people in the water when boating and jet skiing. There has also been an increase in excessive wake and speed near shorelines causing an increase in erosion.
1
Don\’t prevent people from enjoying this area just as you do, which is why you moved here and why you currently live here. These questions are absolutely insane! Very obvious the motive here!!
1
My husband and I love Hayward and the big Chip and we bought a mobile home up here to be able to enjoy it whenever we wanted. I know tourism is where your money comes from in the area and I bet most tourists would love to know how they can support the area to keep it beautiful for years to come. Facebook is great, but I still think a pamphlet or something similar that resort owners can give to guests and leave in the room after cleaning would be the easiest way to get the message out to guests.
